Costa Rica has an area of 51,100 Km ². Bordered on the north by Nicaragua, southeast by Panama, east by the Caribbean Sea and west and southwest Pacific Ocean.
The country is divided into 7 provinces (San José is the capital city), each province is divided into counties and cities.
- Population
Costa Rica has a population of some 4,159.757 inhabitants, the which 49% are women. 94% of residents are white or mestizo, 3% are black, 1% is Native American, other 1% is Chinese and the remaining 1% consists of other ethnicities. The total population, 27.8% is between 0 and 14 years, 66.4% from 15 and 64 and those over 65 years represent 5.8%.
- Languages
Spanish but english is widely spoken.
- Economy
The colon is the official currency, but the US Dollar is widely accepted at most business.
The main agricultural products exports are coffee, tobacco, banana, pineapple and cocoa, among others. The main industries are: tourism, downtown called "INTEL", exports of electronic and medical equipment. GDP is approximately 20.77 billion year. The sectors contributing to GDP are: services (63%), industry (22%) and agriculture (15%). Unemployment is about 6.6%.
